Looking forward to the session. Played with OBS a bit, but can see how to set up Hangout so that OBS is an option in the Video in settings similar to ManyCam. If that's possible.
Edward O'Dwyer OBS, unfortunately, does not have a "Virtual Camera" like ManyCam and Wirecast have, so its output cannot be used in place of or like a webcam.
One can bring an HOA into a YouTube Live Event stream via a window capture or using a capture card getting Hangout content from another computer, but that is beyond what most people want to do.
This show is primarily concerning itself with using the fantastic and free Voicemeeter audio mixer with these tools.
So you can play a sound from your computer and still have talking going on in a hangout and not have echo? Give me example of settings for this. Please
Mark Ferrasci I'm guessing that a lot of what is going on here is PC only and not available for Mac. That has been the case most often with these particular tools (but I've not had time to watch so if these are PC or Mac tools, then great). Of course, we've seen how when a tool is made for PC and available on Mac, the feature set might be quite different (read Manycam seems very nice for PC but at this point is pretty worthless when on a Mac).
Thanks Terry Leigh Britton, I was looking for something like Voicemeeter. Coincidently, I downloaded the VB Cable last week to use with VSThost, which has some great audio processing capability depending on which vst plugins you add, compression, noisegate, etc.
Also, if anyone is looking for something like OBS that has a virtual webcam for Hangouts, you might want to try XSplit. It's reasonably priced and very close to OBS in features and interface. A couple of years ago I compared its memory usage to several similar virtual webcams and it was the least demanding at that time.
Leah Davies That's good to hear about Xsplit. I should give it a workout. There seem to be three versions of the Virtual Audio Cable (not counting the ASIO capable Hi-Fi Audio Cable) - a VB Cable item, and a VB Audio Cable A and B. I am wondering if having the A and B versions mean you should NOT have the other one present? I'll ask the authors. I installed the other last night after the show, but got some strange audio breakup today at the end of today's show, and though Michael says other Hangouts were having audio problems, this seemed very digital like a local problem. Anyway, I'll get back to you on that - or remind me to follow up! :-)

ReplyDeleteGood Stuff!

We'll be starting in about 25 minutes ;)
ReplyDeleteI am in the vicinity...
ReplyDeleteJust watched the Voicemeeter/OBS tutorial in preparation. I'm so in over my head here ;o. Going to enjoy this one.
ReplyDeleteAwaiting. Ready to learn a bit
ReplyDeleteThe software link is http://vb-audio.pagesperso-orange.fr/Voicemeeter/
ReplyDeleteI'll also be discussing using it with http://camstudio.org
and with http://obsproject.com
We are here!
ReplyDeleteok- Tonight there will be no panelists- Please type your questions into the event chat.
ReplyDeletegood stuff. A lot of buffering though?
ReplyDeleteNot sure if it is me?
No Michael- lots of buffering on the event page.
ReplyDeleteSo you can play a sound from your computer and still have talking going on in a hangout and not have echo?
ReplyDeleteGive me example of settings for this. Please
I did have buffering but it's, thankfully, stopped now.
ReplyDeletewe are seeing the sound
ReplyDeletenow we see
ReplyDeleteNow THAT is funny!
ReplyDeleteSo you can set an outside person's voice (helping with the presentation) and the HOA host only can hear that voice?
ReplyDeleteMichael Daniels Note: latency = $15 word
ReplyDeletewe are seeing Terry not anything on screen
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to watch later. The buffering is so bad for me right now
ReplyDeleteStrange- Terry is pinned and is screen sharing.
ReplyDeletehis may be from about 5 minutes ago. Very bad buffering
ReplyDeleteYes buffering is worse now than before - will be watching it again too.
ReplyDeleteTerry answered my questions from before.
You can set the A2 to come into your headset and not out to the audience, as I understand what you said.
ReplyDeleteShelia - do you want to join the afterparty?
ReplyDeleteYes, thank you Andrew Hatchett
ReplyDeleteI'll try to watch this soon... not sure if it helps the Mac world but should be interesting regardless.
ReplyDeleteRonnie Bincer Why is it different in the mac world, is there something different or better for Mac?

ReplyDeleteThanks Ronnie Bincer On my first mac so I wanted to clarify your points and learn something. as always it is appreciated..
ReplyDeleteMF.
