I know - I think whatever it was, I may have fixed it. I reset all my notifications and I think it is better now...I got a notification of a post you made LOL crazy stuff.
I was wondering why I hadn't seen anything, I thought maybe you guys took a holiday break.
Catching it now, Andrew Hatchett 1) I like the comments transfer away from U2U and back to host's HOA's Events page: THANKS! 2) I like the weekly summary idea a lot, also. 3) Appreciate the daily announcements very much. 4) Very much like the HELP aspect and glad it's remaining. 5) Happy to be participating in the cross-promoting and being promoted, for sure. 6) LOVE your and Michael Daniels' tech expertise and help, past and upcoming. 7) I'd be happy to host a brief HOA detailing the lessons I've learned and how I've coped with my first 16 Episodes (4 months of hosting my own HOA, CHANGES): update from the newbie trenches, or something like that. 8) ALSO almost every one of my guests was brand-new to HOAs prior to being on my show, so the HOA minimal tech tutelage part of the CHANGES pre-show hour-long prep has been essential. Could enjoy a conversation with other HOSTS about best ways to bring newbies along as guests if they haven't been in +User2User-Live or Meloney Hall 's great Lights, Camera, HOA experience before becoming an HOA guest, especially LIVE, especially when their tech set-up (usually at home) is less than perfect.
I LOVE the idea, Sandra VanSickle , of having a FAQ section that could be copied and pasted to every HOA events page for new attendees, to free up the host from running tech interference pre-show. One for regular HOAs and one for BHOAs, right?
"You're not allowed to mention other Communities in PYB" is enough of a reason for me NEVER to join or go to their events. What a crock. Is that a cult or what? Shameful.
Learning curve issues (from a lifetime educator): If someone is a VISUAL learner, you must use the same visuals they'll be using to teach them how to use them. If someone is an AUDITORY or KINeSTHETIC LEARNER, adjust accordingly as well. FYI.
When you post, Andrew Hatchett or Michael Daniels or anyone else offering a HOA or topic for U2U community, it is helpful to put the topic right in the first part of the first line because that is the only part that shows in Notifications. I am usually going so fast through my HUNDREDS of them each day that if the topic isn't there I often don't bother to click on it and I almost neverdouble click to find what it's about (click on the Notification; still not visible, so have to click again to go the actual post: takes too much time). When it says "People in the U2U community will find this interesting" almost every time, that is not useful.
I would like to see a flow chart or sequence so that beginners would know the best route to take for learning how to be on and eventually how to track comments and finally, how to host a HOA. Or, even after finally, how to add bells and whistles (which ones? for what?). Where /with whom should someone start? At what point should they go to Meloney Hall 's show as a guest? When and with whom should each step occur? Like that.
I think Michael Daniels is almost on to that sequence idea in this conversation, but not quite. I kind of like Sandra VanSickle 's idea, suggested near the end, of weeks or regularly scheduled particular kinds of help each month so people know when to "jump in" on any sequence/topic.
Right now, Lower Third questions: 1) Why do we have to turn the Lower Third on and off three times before leaving it on? 2) Why, after I make the direction correct (using the reverse icon), does the banner revert to mirror after I turn on or use Comment Tracker? 3) Why does the Lower Third sometimes just not work (won't show up) and other times it does?
"Double green bubble" Comment Tracker questions: 1) why does it sometimes refuse to load? 2) Why does it sometimes "not recognize the source" when I use the exact same process for acquiring it every time? 3) What is making the comments be transparent some weeks and not others? 4) Why does the eyeball sometimes not work (selected comment won't show up on screen at all)?
I listened to the whole show. Thanks so much for doing this, for having this Community and for being so helpful to the G+ HOA community and the whole G+ experience! Happy Holidays, +User2User peeps!
Sally Sue Ember About showing the entire comment on screen... no, no way to do that with Comment Tracker. That is why it is recommended attendees be reminded to keep their comments short. Ask one question per comment- not a bunch of them in one comment.
Sally Sue Ember most of your questions are answered this way - "Because they simply do not work correctly at that moment." The apps you are referring to have had issues for a couple months now. Most believe it is related to when Google made the switch to a plugin-less app for hangouts and that caused mega issues with anything related to an "overlay" ie. lower thirds and comments.
EDIT: and because of this belief many have switched to using Firefox to host hangouts so the overlay issue is "fixed"
One of your questions regarding the "mirrored image" you see in a hangout, is something you need to realize is only YOUR view. The others in the filmstrip as well as those watching are not seeing that reversed image you are experiencing. Also, why sometimes it does and sometimes it does not again refer to the beginning of this comment.
Finally, the comment tracker has always had the issue of not being able to show an entire comment when it is over so many characters long. That is because it does not expand or decrease the font size at all, it was not designed to. For this and MANY more reasons I use Business Hangouts as it has rectified MANY of these issues and created a much better experience for a host and for the viewers when used properly.
I hope that LONG WINDED explanation helped some :)
I am just now catching this :)
ReplyDeleteHeather Kraafter You were missed. I look forward to you input on the subject!
ReplyDeleteI got one issue...I am not getting any notifications from U2U anymore. My notifications are on. So not sure what the deal is.
ReplyDeleteI have missed aaaalllllllll the stuff ya'll been doing. :(
Heather Kraafter Not sure what is happening. You still show as a member and moderator in the U2U community so I'm stumped!

Above questions and suggestions are for Andrew Hatchett and Michael Daniels but anyone with answers, like Russ Worthington , is welcome to hop in.
ReplyDeleteOne more COMMENT TRACKER question: is there any way to get the eyeball to show the entire comment onscreen when it's more than a few lines long?
