I see no proof that either Ella or her husband refused the letter. Tha address is vague so who knows where the delivery attempt was made or to whom? Had Ella and her husband moved? Did the new occupant refuse it? To much unknown- claiming Ella or her husband rejecte4d the letter is mere speculation of the highest order.

Producing a Professional Hangout on Air: Precise Preparation is a Prerequisite
I was fortunate enough to be included in a Hangout on Air that featured Jay Bilas , a college basketball analyst for ESPN. It was a wonderful experience and I hope that you watch us discuss topics regarding college athletics and the student athlete.
While the conversation was very enjoyable, I was intrigued by the amount of preparation that went into producing this HOA. Representatives from Google, CBS Sports, EPIX and Pixel Corps were all involved in the setup.
Individually, we were contacted the day before for a one-on-one video Hangout to test our internet connections (hardwired only), audio/video quality, lighting, room environment, etc. On the day of the HOA, an hour and a half before we went live , we participants met in the "green room" to run through our tests again, first individually and then collectively as a group. We were given technical instructions for operating during the live event, i.e., stay on topic, keep your microphone muted when not talking, do not display "lower thirds", minimize body movement, etc. We practiced a few trial runs to respond to cues that would be used during the show. Finally, a countdown clock was provided to cue us when were about to go live.
On screen, there was an established hierarchy: A moderator, the special guest expert (Mr. Bilas), and a support panel that participated in the discussion. Meanwhile, off screen there was a producer who controlled the technical side of the HOA, i.e., the countdown clock that served as an introduction for the viewer, bringing in and removing the guests into and out of the HOA, starting the documentary trailer that ended the HOA, etc.
Despite all of the preparation involved, technical glitches do happen. Throughout the video, you will notice occasional background noise as someone forgot to mute a microphone, or others struggled with their internet connection (mine was lost at the very end of the event). However, this was a live event and everyone was instructed beforehand that if problems did arise, "just roll with it".
I am recounting this story to advise those that aspire to produce professional Hangouts on Air for their business that you must prepare in advance: have the right equipment, develop checklists, establish roles within the participant group, perform trial runs, etc., before ever going live for the first time .The HOA that I participated in lasted 45 minutes; however, several hours of preparation went into its production.
Not everyone can afford to have an established production company such as EPIX to assist them with a Hangout on Air. However, as Google+ users, there are resources available to us, and, if you follow the experts' advice, you will be well on your way to producing quality HOA's. I can think of no better and more helpful expert than Ronnie Bincer , the "Hangout Helper", to serve as your trainer and advisor for accomplishing your HOA goals and I encourage you to reach out to him.
So, what are you waiting for? Prepare first and then produce. I can't wait to watch your Hangout on Air!

Hi Darius
Hi Darius,
After talking with Jim Shankle, we have devised alternate wording to the message one sees when clicking on the meeting link and the meeting either hasn't started or is over. We feel it provides a bit more information and clarity. We hereby submit the following for your consideration:
"The link you have entered will become active 30 minutes prior to the time scheduled for this BUSINESS HANGOUTS MEETING.
If you are seeing this message, it is because either:
1- The link is not yet active because the meeting has not started, or
2- The meeting is over.
Please contact your host if you think you are receiving this message in error or for more information."

Jim Shankle,
What do you think about this wording for that "join" message?
I'm going to propose an official change to itnd would appreciate your input.
"This link becomes active 30 minutes prior to a scheduled BUSINESS HANGOUTS MEETING. Either the link is not yet active or the meeting is over. There is no active meeting at this time. Please contact your host for more information if you think this is an error."

Hi Geoffrey,
Sorry Darius got tied up and didn't get to help with the double Lower Third problem. If you contact him via email I'm certain he'll help.
I've never attended a Tuesday Demo that had so many people there, usually there are 3-4 at most.

Learn about the New HOA Q&A App - bring more interaction to HOAs
Hangouts on Air can be very interactive - It is like "Yelling at the TV" and The TV can answer back to paraphrase a friend. This new Q&A app adds another element to the back and forth conversation with Hangouts on Air.
As noted in the intro video, this live session will use the Q&A app to address your questions and will not likely use the comments you might enter in the Event. Here is the link to the Referenced intro video so you can watch it after the Q&A interface auto-replaces the video in the event: Intro to the Q&A App with Google+ Events - HOA Questions & Answers
This Event's start time will translate into your local time (unless you are on mobile) - as a reference point, the start time is 9am PT/12pm ET.
We will not only discuss how people are using this Q&A app but will likely compare this method of interaction with prior methods and rate the pros and cons of each.
Please invite others and/or share this Event with others that may be interested in the new Q&A app for Hangouts on Air. Bring your Questions!

26 Years of Growth: Shanghai Then and Now - 3 photo pairs - http://theatln.tc/18aFxv5 - Reuters photographer Carlos Barria recently spent time in Shanghai, China, the fastest-growing city in the world. A week ago, recreating the same framing and perspective as a photograph taken in 1987, he took this amazing shot showing what a difference 26 years can make. The setting is Shanghai's financial district of Pudong, dominated by the Oriental Pearl Tower at left, and the new 125-story Shanghai Tower, China's tallest building, at right. Shanghai, the largest city by population in the world, has been growing at a rate of about 10 percent a year the past 20 years, and now is home to 23.5 million people -- nearly double what it was back in 1987.

Tips for using Google Drive effectively
Tips for using Google Drive effectively
I use #googledrive daily for writing work and storing new material I find and want to keep. I want to share some ideas here what I have found to be useful when using The drive.
Backups
Nothing is 100% sure, so getting backups is essential.
Google has the right to cancel your account anytime they want, so this should convince you to make backups. Backups can be done by downloading the Drive to your computer. Remember to keep it synced all the time.
Now notice that files that are made by googledocs (gdoc) are only links to your files in the cloud.
In the event that you lose your account rights, these files can not be returned, even if you have to backups in your computer.
So for this reason after I have completed a writing work with googledocs, I will always download pdf version of the file too.
Naming files
Because drive is a Google product the search inside the drive is awesome. Learn to use it!
You can help the search to work more effectively by using organized method for naming the files. I use a simple formula for all the files I have: lastname, first name - main topic - specifics
This way listing files by name is also easy.
Keywords for description
For every file you have the possibility to write description. Just click the file with right button of the mouse and choose information. This opens a new tab where you can write descriptions.
I use keywords to define the subject that the file includes. I keep one simple, separate txt file where I list the keywords and where I can add words as I use them.
This makes it easy to find a file that for example includes topics of; self-defense - communication - pre-contact clues.
Naming the folders and organizing
In my opinion it is important to be able to see what files are shared and what are not. So I keep three main folders:
1. Not shared
2. Shared privately
3. Shared publicly
When adding new files to folder that is already shared, there is a warning that asks you; are sure you want to share the file also. But if you don't keep these separated it can be difficult to find what you have shared publicly. Using different colors for shared and private folders or using stars to mark folders helps you to organize material at your drive.
Thank you for reading and if you have other good tips that you use, I would be happy to read about them. Give me a comment!

Google Plus Hangout Events... the place for meetings
Events Tips
I don't know about you, but I hold Video Meetings every day using Google Plus Events and Hangouts. These are not live broadcast HOA (Hangouts on Air) meetings, but they are Regular Hangout Video Calls that take place inside an Event. What I like to call my Virtual Meeting Room.
It's all free from Google and it works quite well.
Check out the parts and pieces annotated in this busy looking graphic below. The event tool coordinates quite well with Google Calendar as we discovered via the 3-part series I did last week: http://goo.gl/V6TI5t
That focused on the Calendar side of things. This post looks at what happens on the Event side. The big right sidebar shows the meeting notification (in red) automatically sent by the Event... as well as what the Hangout Sidebar looked like after the video call was finished (blue box).
When you are looking at the Google Plus Event Page, and you are there 'early' (before the start time of the Event) you will not see the pretty blue button shown below, but once the start time happens, then the Blue "Join Hangout" button appears and all invited into the Hangout can join into the call (assuming there is room left for up to 10 people to enter).
Do you hold personal or business meetings inside Hangouts?
Do you use the Event Tool to help people know when and where to meet?

Some stand out naturally, others have to work at it...
The first thing to remember is that you only have a few seconds to catch someones attention, that's it. Your opening title and first few sentences are a critical value statement which either outlines or alludes to the value hidden between the lines of your post. As you establish rapor and create relationships within a given social network the value of your posts can be alluded to by your reputation alone with those individuals. However the need to create content that stipulates its value early and clear enough to capture and hold a readers attention never changes.
That value can even be a question. If through collaboration the goal becomes to engage with people for the resolution of issues either business or personal. That open dynamic conversation with any number of intelligent, considerate comments, has the potential to create extraordinary value and even foster real, positive change for all parties involved.
Think about it. Posts have a many things in common even when about vastly different topics. There is a name, followed by some words. There is usually but not always a picture, a link and some hashtags. The trick is to create patterns with those elements and add a stipulated value. This is your first impression and it needs to count. The patterns within the first elements will attract attention and if the stipulated value is one that individual finds attractive they will read on and possibly engage. When I say stipulated value I do not mean a spelled out interpretation. How you present the value you think your post holds is up to you, but presenting it up front and then working through it will help you stand out in the crowd...

The new compose now has a full-screen option
After Gmail's new compose rolled out to everyone in March, many of you sent us requests for features you'd like to see added. We listened carefully to your feedback and as as result, the new compose now offers a full-screen option.
When this option is enabled, the compose window is centered in your inbox and expands to fit on your screen. In addition, the formatting toolbar is on by default. You can click on the expand button in the top right to switch to full-screen or set full-screen as the default by selecting Default to full-screen in the more options menu in the bottom right.
The full-screen option is rolling out to everyone over the next couple of days.

Polls
Polls
Occasionally I see people asking for a poll feature within Google+, or some might create a comment based post which only allows the participant to +1 the desired response.
You may not know that Google have already provided you with a great way to create forms that are more visual, allow collaborative editing, and response analysis.
Simply go to Google Drive, and create a new Form- watch the video below for a quick tour.
Once you have you created your form press the ‘Send Form’ button and then share it to Google+. People will then be able to respond without leaving Google+ and it will provide a more social experience as opposed to a locked comment based one.
I have created a sample form here so you can see how it integrates with Google+ http://goo.gl/12h0R

Drew Smith Appointed Chair of FHISO
Drew Smith Appointed Chair of FHISO
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Date: 8 June 2013
Family History Information Standards Organisation, Inc. (FHISO) is pleased to announce the appointment of Drew Smith as the first Chair of FHISO, effective 1 July 2013. Drew is currently the Organisational Member Representative to FHISO from the Federation of Genealogical Societies (FGS).
“I am deeply honored to have been given this opportunity by the FHISO Board,” Drew said. “As someone who has made a career in information technology and librarianship, I recognize the critical importance of information standards, and as a long-time genealogist, I understand the needs of the world’s genealogy product and service vendors, repositories, societies, and individuals to collaborate and to share family history information. I look forward to leading an international effort to support the creation of these essential information standards.”
“We are excited to have Drew join us in this leadership role, as it marks a significant milestone in transitioning the organisation from its formative state into an operating standards development body,” said Robert Burkhead, FHISO Acting Chair and Technical Standing Committee Coordinator. “Drew's knowledge and experience in the industry will serve FHISO's membership and the entire community well.”
Individuals from FHISO member organisations expressed their own praise and support for Drew’s appointment. “Drew brings an excellent synthesis of a genealogical librarian and an active player in the larger family history community, and I look forward to working with him in his new role,” said D. Joshua Taylor, Lead Genealogist and Business Development Manager – North America for brightsolid online publishing, the creators of findmypast.com.
“Having worked with Drew in various organizations and committees, I believe he is the perfect choice to chair FHISO at this formative time,” said Bruce Buzbee, President of RootsMagic, Inc. “I have seen firsthand his organizational skills and leadership qualities in groups where members may have very different opinions or somewhat different goals.”
Loretto (Lou) Szucs, Vice President of Community Relations for Ancestry.com, had this to say: “Having known and worked with Drew for more than fifteen years, I can’t think of anyone who is better qualified to serve as the first Chair of this important new organization. Drew has consistently shown his outstanding leadership skills in working with family history organizations, libraries, and other historical and technology organizations. As the world’s largest online family history resource, with more than 2.5 million subscribers and more than 11 billion records online, Ancestry.com is proud to be a founding member of FHISO.”
“The appointment of Drew Smith as Chair of FHISO sends a strong signal to all wait-and-see organisations,” said Bob Coret, founder of Coret Genealogie. “FHISO is becoming a strong organisation which, with the recent Call for Papers, is leading the way in developing genealogy and family history information standards. As a Founding Member of FHISO from the Netherlands I'm pleased to hear that Drew Smith also embraces the non-English part of the genealogical community, which reflects the international character of FHISO.”
Drew Smith is an Assistant Librarian with the Academic Services unit of the University of South Florida (USF) Tampa Library, and serves as the liaison librarian to the USF School of Information. He has taught graduate-level courses in genealogical librarianship and indexing/abstracting, and undergraduate-level courses in web design. Drew earlier worked for academic computing departments at USF and at Clemson University (South Carolina).
Drew is a Director of FGS (2008-2013), chair of its Technology Committee, and “Rootsmithing with Technology” columnist for its FORUM magazine. He is past Secretary of the Association of Professional Genealogists (APG). Drew is President of the Florida Genealogical Society of Tampa and has served on the board of the Florida State Genealogical Society. He administers the GENEALIB electronic mailing list with over 1200 genealogy librarians as subscribers, a list he founded in 1996.
Drew has been the co-host of The Genealogy Guys Podcast since September 2005, and together with George G. Morgan has produced over 250 one-hour episodes. Drew is author of the book Social Networking for Genealogists, published in 2009 by Genealogical Publishing Company, and with George is co-author of the upcoming book Advanced Genealogy Research Skills, to be published in September 2013 by McGraw-Hill. Drew has written extensively for NGS NewsMagazine (now NGS Magazine), Genealogical Computing, and Digital Genealogist.
Drew holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering and a Master of Science in Industrial Management from Clemson University, and a Master of Arts in Library and Information Science from USF.

It is possible, and here is the proof
tim hem from the UK said we could do it and I doubted! But now I see I was wrong! Nice Discovery Tim!
Here are the steps to make this work:
1) Be a member of the GPC (Community) in which you care to broadcast
2) On your Profile (outside the GPC) or via the upper right, press the "Start a Hangout" button. Not the button on the GPC's right sidebar labeled "Start a new hangout"
3) Choose to make the Hangout a HOA (Hangout on Air)
4) Invite the GPC from the Invite screen (should be near the bottom of the list, or type the GPC name... it show the 3-dot GPC symbol on the name chicklet)
5) Back on the GPC page, the Right Sidebar within the GPC near the word "HANGOUTS" will show that there is a Hangout GPC members can Join inside the GPC, even before you go live (Greenroom time)
6) In order for all the members of the GPC to View the Live feed, the folks within the Hangout, need to share/post the Video URL for the HOA into the GPC. Remember only 10 are allowed inside at a time, so others within the GPC can watch if they can't get in this way.
7) It works!... Go live (start Broadcast) and GPC members can watch & comment within the GPC & Join into the filmstrip/HOA (if there is still room)
And we all thought it was not possible!
Thanks for proving us wrong tim hem - and Thanks for double verification to Robert Redl from Vienna.
