What stinks about this change is:
1- you can't include a trailer
(Me: So... we have to find a substitute.)
2- you can't invite from the setup page in Live events
(Me: So... we have to find a substitute such as:
a. put the link in an email and send it out from there
b. post in G+ [which nobody reads anymore].
c. put the link {a black screen!!!} on Twitter and Facebook
d. any other suggestions?)
3- you have to connect an AdSense account to be able to embed the finished video
(Me: For this there is no substitute)
4- and I'm sure there are other issues :)
(Me: Probably- but let's work on finding the substitutes/workarounds that we know we need now and then worry about what may come later) :)
Anyone have any input for finding these needed substitutes?

For 2- people could create a Space for their events and then invite people to join the Space. This would give you 10 ways to invite people, and they would have to opt in, rather than the spammy way many SHOAs were promoted before
ReplyDeleteThanks Mark Barrus, hadn't thought of using Spaces.
ReplyDeleteAndrew Hatchett You got me thinking....when you share a Space, it gives you lots of methods to share, and potential viewers must accept.
ReplyDeleteYou could also put a trailer on your YouTube channel, and configure your channel so that there is a live events "shelf" - then send people there. Or you could embed the video on your own site (which I think is a better solution)
ReplyDeleteNote that not all channels need to have AdSense connected to embed live streams - established channels don't. I'm still pushing YouTube to explain the formula. For example, I have an unmonetized test channel that has live stream embedding enabled - the only thing notable about it is that the channel is several years old.
Thanks Peggy K
ReplyDeleteAlso YouTube has a bunch of recommendations for promoting your live stream here: https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/2524542
ReplyDeleteIt's going to be hard shifting to a new workflow, but with some creativity it maybe won't be too bad.
What about a G+ community?
ReplyDeleteG+ communities, Facebook groups, your own website, online forums and wherever else your target audience lives. I try to keep my live stream promotions focused and make sure I have a consistent presence by contributing on all these sites. Build credibility by offering real content that has value to your viewers and that will look for your webcasts and spread the word. Be flexible and ready to learn and move to a new platform or learn new procedures. Andrew Hatchett, Peggy K and others in thiscommunity are invaluable with this.
