Ohhh, so SAD, but who knows what will come out of the changes, once we got used to them. At the moment I wonder how the YouTube events can end up in a calendar so that people can get a reminder. Any idea?
Thanks Andrew Hatchett , this is true, but Business Hangouts is not free any more..... I wish you a good meeting, I won't be up in the middle of my night, but will watch the replay and watch out for more suggestions and work arounds. Heidi
I am so going to miss G+HOA Events - although I didn't get to use it much since the middle of 2014 forward with my laptop slowly dying I did enjoy watching
It's already that date here ... over halfway through. I'm hoping to be enjoying the LIVE as my computer has it listing as 09:15 am here! Looked in my diary and the client isn't until 12:30pm.
Andrew Hatchett, I will try to be there for the live presentation, but it may have to be the replay. I really liked the G+ HOAs because of the comments. We were all on the same page with the comments, instead of there being several different comment streams like there is with the new options -- and with some, no comment stream at all.
It is already late evening in UK - I regret I cannot stay up to participate as I need my sleep as I have an early chore tomorrow. It is lovely to see you all supportive of Andrew and his community to Google Event's last gasp.
Tears are flowing & it's not even started yet, so many whose G+HOAs I've watched live & interacted with or got to watch the reply of due to it being right there on in my feed I'm going to miss everyone )0;} - each time that Google does these changes it breaks apart what is working & drives people away )0;} The youtube live is not user friendly like G+HOA was & from what I'm seeing Facebook Live is so easy that non-techy friends of mine who use facebook via phone have started a Live Stream Accidently while there is no way to Start a LiveStream through a tablet or cellphone for either youtube or G+HOA - I do hope that they plan to quickly fix that & enable a simple Click & Start Live without all that encoding now needed to use Youtube Live
Sorry this is going to be a longish rant - those who have no/little patience please discontinue reading.
The Event Page has been a nightmare for certain things, while it allowed for lot of audience engagement. It was painful to get the comments from the Event Page into the Comment Tracker - one had to do 'Reshares' in a specific way and the terminology has been quite confusing.
Biggest problem was the Event Page created a kludgey 'Event' in the Calendar. The HOA Event Page was NOT reachable through APIs provided by Google and this meant lots of software tools that did things with your calendar could not even get to these Event Pages.
Once you create an Event Page (and the associated HOA etc) it was painful to do any adjustments to date, time etc of that Event. It was often much easier to completely delete the whole thing and create a fresh one.
So considering all these I think I am OK with this kludge going away.
But We do NEED something better which enables audience engagement
Hope Google gives us a replacement - may be on the G+ side - may be an Enterprise friendly version?
May be they would bring back the old traditional Event with some improvements for ease of use? They may do it after initially removing the existing one and calling it something else and bringing it back! You know the software often works that way.
If the old version is too difficult to maintain and upgrade, software developers often totally redo the whole thing and it would not work with the old stuff at all - so may even be called something else.
Sorry for the long rant Andrew Hatchett but I need to get to sleep and wanted to say something - get it off my chest and sleep well!
I too would like to say that it's too bad that we are losing the event page. It has been such a great journey meeting people from all over the world that I now think of as friends. Let us all use our creativity to figure out ways to stay connected efficiently.
Like it or not FB is where our clients are. Now that we can do Live video on there it's pretty awesome for engagement and letting new folks see who you are.
BlogTV & other LiveStreaming services folded up once G+HOA started - Blab was nice but not limited with only the host & 3 others & not as many features as G+HOAs
You are AMAZING Andrew Hatchett! Thanks so much for helping us all through this transition. I'm sure we'll all continue to look to you for your patient wisdom and expertise.
An adventure ahead with discovering what is going to work for each of us with the changes. I'm actually excited, in a weird way! Thank you to the User-to-User community as well. All the people who have made the learning of how to do HOA's in the first place.

ReplyDeleteThat's what I love about watching I learn something new each time
ReplyDeleteStill hoping to learn how to work the new system.
ReplyDeleteSo far I've only tried the 'start now' option in YT Live. I didn't have the live chat and only did it off the cuff, not planned.
