Thought you'd like to know that I've found out that creating/starting a Business-Hangout event through their planner does the same thing as the UnifiedChat Hangout Extension - i.e. going to watch it on the YouTube page (something I've never done) also shows Comment space rather than chat area and can be posted to during the live event and it saves when it ends.
Looks like the only time an actual chat area is available is when chat is enabled and the event is created and started as a YouTube Live Event - or that's how it seems to me.
